Although he claims that Ricky Hatton is like a Buddhist monk, while in training, there has to be times when Kerry Kayes looks at him in desperation.

The former bodybuilder, who is responsible for diet and strength training of Hatton, works in tandem with trainer Billy Graham to activate your takeaway-loving Mancunian in a prize fighter.

But even though Kayes has worked with Hatton for years, he knows that he is always a shock on Hatton rocks for its first session in lead-up to a big fight.

"The worst condition he lifted was 40 lbs overweight," Kaye told BBC Sport.

"Ricky had four fights in 2004 and why he yo-yoed up and down has lost more of your body weight during the year.

"The first few weeks working with more than Billy me because I get into some sort of condition of Billy can work with him."

Knowledge of Hatton takeaway scene and nightlife tabloid has led some to call him "Ricky Fatton," digging in its shape when not in training.

The oscillating weight is clearly shown by an image that adorns his Denton gym of a portly Hatton sitting next to the late comedian Bernard Manning, both decked out with bathrobe and cigars.

If it serves as a reminder of what awaits us after his gruelling training program is over, it is a picture in stark contrast with the sample that is primed to chiseled take on Floyd Mayweather.

The attack for the WBC welterweight title 8 December will be the second time Hatton has stepped up its level of light-welterweight habitual 140 lb.

In its previous meeting in 147 lb, Hatton almost came unstuck before narrowly beating Luis Collazo on points and later revealed that he had been discharging Hatton in the takeaway odd trying to mass by its frame.

But Kayes is well aware of the lessons learned and says to 12 weeks of preparation will ensure Hatton is best of his life, this time around.

The question remains, however, as if he might be even better if you stopped, leaving all go so dramatically between fights.

Kayes did not doubt the 29-year-old would be improved if a fighter has avoided the Marathon Benders he is renowned for.

But he claims the Hatton method, although not to relax in the professional sports world conventional, actually has extended his career.

"Everything is done on ' Ricky fatton ' and how he goes to extremes when he's not in the gym and this is true, he loves his supervises, loves his beer and loves its night life," says Kaye.

"But the day that begins the training that is a pleasure to work with because he takes very seriously, it's a great student and he does everything correctly.

"Ricky extreme of a human being and when there is a struggle, there is an enormous pressure.

"But if the same when the fight is over Ricky like mentally. Then, when he is tired of that he himself likes to physically and I believe that both go hand in hand.

"Reduces his career but Billy [Graham] don't want to fight but past 30. Billy wants him to quit the sport intact.

"If people Ricky become a Buddhist monk 52 weeks of the year, my guess is that he would probably be retired by now."

While Graham is responsible for training in the ring, Kayes is the man to lead when it comes to weight room.

He says that weights allowed Hatton hit harder than ever, something that paid dividends in his last fight against Jose Luis Castillo when Hatton knocked the wind of 33-year-old Mexican with perfect body shot.

"If you have more explosive power is going to hit hard and I think we have shown that with Ricky," says Kaye.

"If only Ricky was a was, I swear that I could get him a world title in 18 months. He is very strong and a baby his leverage is suitable for a was.

"Strength is probably more important for his boxing style that most boxers because she loves to work in close and push and shove and shred the opponent, so lifting I was very good for its armoury."

Some good news ahead of the competition of Hatton in Vegas are the fact that Hatton will be forced to avoid his pre-game traditional diet of a hot English breakfast.

Any dietitian would balk at the prospect of working with Bacon, eggs and sausages to prepare their athletes for peak performance.

Once the weight, Kayes will be keeping a watchful eye on your Office for Hatton therefore in ring 28 hours later "bursting full of energy" with food right in his system.

Then, after 12 weeks of hammering and chiselling, Kayes will witness contest Hatton fight of his life before watching him slip into the routine layabout who has become his own.

"To be honest," adds Kayes, ' after the fight he will get drunk and I'll probably be giving him something for his Sunday morning hangover.

Kayes, however, is convinced aspirin celebratory will look like.
